White Matter Metabolite Ratios Predict Cognitive Outcome in Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury

نویسندگان

چکیده

The prognostic ability of global white matter and gray metabolite ratios following pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) their relationship to 12-month neuropsychological assessments intelligence quotient (IQ), attention, memory is presented. Three-dimensional proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) in subjects with complicated mild (cMild), moderate, severe TBI was acquired acutely (6–18 days) 12 months post-injury compared age-matched typically developing adolescents. A linear regression model, co-registering MRSI maps 3D high-resolution images, used identify longitudinal ratio changes. Acutely, NAA/Cr, NAA/Cho were significantly lower groups controls. Gray reduced only the group. At months, all normalized control levels each groups. Acute NAA correlated IQ, memory. These findings suggest that whole reflect changes neuronal metabolism TBI, which can be predict outcomes subjects.

White matter damage and cognitive impairment after traumatic brain injury

White matter disruption is an important determinant of cognitive impairment after brain injury, but conventional neuroimaging underestimates its extent. In contrast, diffusion tensor imaging provides a validated and sensitive way of identifying the impact of axonal injury. The relationship between cognitive impairment after traumatic brain injury and white matter damage is likely to be complex....

Prediction of Clinically Important Traumatic Brain Injury in Pediatric Minor Head Trauma; proposing Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury (PTBI) Prognostic Rule

Background: The present study assesses independent predictors of clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI) in order to design a prognostic rule for identification of high risk children with mild head injury. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective cross-sectional study, 3,199 children with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) brought to emergency ward of three hospitals in Tehran, Iran...

Callosal Function in Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Linked to Disrupted White Matter Integrity.

UNLABELLED Traumatic brain injury (TBI) often results in traumatic axonal injury and white matter (WM) damage, particularly to the corpus callosum (CC). Damage to the CC can lead to impaired performance on neurocognitive tasks, but there is a high degree of heterogeneity in impairment following TBI. Here we examined the relation between CC microstructure and function in pediatric TBI. We used h...

White matter disruption in moderate/severe pediatric traumatic brain injury: Advanced tract-based analyses

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death and disability in children and can lead to a wide range of impairments. Brain imaging methods such as DTI (diffusion tensor imaging) are uniquely sensitive to the white matter (WM) damage that is common in TBI. However, higher-level analyses using tractography are complicated by the damage and decreased FA (fractional anisotropy) charac...
